I. Purpose
The move of inviting master talents is decisive for Tsinghua University to become a top-class university in the world by 2011, and it will greatly upgrade the status and the whole faculty of Tsinghua.
II. Major content
The establishment of the Fund for “Chair Professorship”
Either endowment or non-endowment fund is welcome without upper ceiling for amount. The fund may be named as per donator’s wish or after famous scholars in the history, e.g. Hua Luogeng Chair Professorship.
For Master Chair Professor Positions, RMB 10 million of fund is required per position (in case of non-endowment fund, RMB 1 million is required per position for at least two continuous years). This position is for inviting world-famous scholars to do teaching and cooperative researches in Tsinghua. For Special-Term Chair Professor Positions, 1.5 million of fund is required (in case of non-endowment fund, RMB 100,000 is required per position for at least two continuous years). This position is for inviting famous special-term professors in China.
In autumn every year, a season of harvest, batches and batches of graduates from Tsinghua pitch themselves in the great development tide of China’s new economy, and at the same time, Tsinghua greets winners of nationwide examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate candidates as new blood injected to Tsinghua. Year after year, departures and arrivals make Tsinghua maintain its vigorous creative power. This enriched land will surely produce a great deal of talented students as return for the masters and give generous reward to far-sighted people who fund the professor positions.
